Jimmy Singh returns!

Jimmy Singh returns!

Sunny Shoker31 Jul 2019 - 18:00

Jimmy Singh has returned to Sikh Union Coventry as player-coach after a seven month spell away from the club.

He first took over the role in Summer 2014 and his first stint saw the Sikh Union 1st team finish 5th, 2nd, 3rd and 2nd each year respectively in the West Midlands Premier Division, narrowly missing out on promotion. During this time he blooded many youngsters into the 1st team including Jazzy Marwaha and current captain Sunny Shoker, whilst bringing in experienced players such as Indi Soor (Barford Tigers) and Sunny Mehmi (Wednesbury). Sikh Union were almost always the league top scorers during his spell, playing fluent attacking hockey with striker Micky Hayer topping the individual scorer charts each year.

In December 2018, Jimmy parted ways with the club mid-season and moved to Aldridge & Walsall Hockey Club. Sikh Union finished the 2018/19 season in 7th in the East Midlands Premier Division after losing key players to injuries and suspensions.

Pre-season training has been preceded by participation in Summer League hockey and September friendlies have been arranged. Jimmy’s first fixture will be against Bridgnorth with only a few weeks to prepare his squad for a tough upcoming winter season, hoping to emulate and surpass previous campaigns.
